Reading a quote without getting talked past it

Ask for the on-road breakup in writing, line by line: ex-showroom, road tax, registration and RTO fees, insurance, FASTag, and anything else. A quote given as one number is the easiest place for a charge nobody explains.

Check the insurance line against the base premium in our on-road figure, and ask what the difference buys. Check whether accessories and extended warranties were added rather than chosen. Check the discount is on the ex-showroom price, not on a figure invented to be discounted from.

If the financing is arranged by the dealer, ask for the rate, the tenure and the processing fee separately, and ask whether insurance has been bundled into the loan. Then compare the monthly figure with the one on the vehicle's own page, where the assumptions are printed.
