Variant, family, and why a discontinued vehicle stays on the register

A variant is the exact thing a dealer sells: this wheelbase, this cabin, this body, these seats counted without the driver. A family gathers the variants of one model, which is how the road's comments pool sensibly instead of being split across a dozen near identical rows.

Names follow the maker, even where the maker's name is awkward or long. We do not tidy a name into something more readable, because the name on the invoice has to match the name you searched for.

A vehicle that is no longer sold new stays on the register, marked discontinued, with the last price it was listed at, named by its kind. Half of India's commercial vehicle market is a vehicle that was new some years ago, and hiding those rows would hide the half that most buyers are actually shopping in.
