Selling to a dealer instead of waiting for a buyer
A private sale gets you the better price and costs you the weeks. A dealer sale is the other trade: less money, but the vehicle leaves this month and the paperwork is somebody's job rather than yours. Both are legitimate and the right one depends on whether the vehicle is still earning while it waits.
Used-vehicle dealers post what they are buying: the class, the makers, the years, a ceiling on kilometres and a budget. If your vehicle matches one of those, the dealer is already looking for it, and you are not starting a conversation cold.
You are not obliged to take the first number. A dealer's offer and the register's own figure are two readings of the same vehicle; if they are far apart, ask why, because the answer is usually something specific about your vehicle rather than about the market.
