THE MANUAL18 THE CIRCLE AND THE VERDICTS

M-186

The verdict, the early word and the register note

Three kinds of desk writing sit on vehicle pages, and each says which it is. A full verdict is the considered one, written when there is enough evidence to be fair. An early word is written when a vehicle is new and the evidence is thin, and it says so. A register note is the shortest: what the record holds, without a judgement we cannot yet support.

All three are drafted from the evidence alone, the operators' voice, the register, the market, and answers we commissioned, and each carries the receipt line saying what it was based on and in which month.

Nothing is published until a person here approves it, and an approved text is a lock: a later draft waits beside it until a person accepts the change. A maker cannot have a verdict withdrawn, and cannot buy one either.
